Is 30 MPG Possible In A Diesel?
I personally believe there is absolutely no reason why light-duty diesel trucks can’t get 30 miles per gallon from the factory.
Why? Because over the years I have talked to tons of truck owners whose diesel trucks used to get 25-30 MPG back in the 90’s. But today they are lucky to get 14-15 MPG.
So why do new trucks now only get 14-15 MPG?
Most of this mileage loss I believe is due to emissions changes the factory is making to the trucks. The factory is "de-tuning" the engines to meet government demands. In recent years manufacturers have set these tables to favor "better emissions" over fuel efficiency which has caused the fuel mileage of the diesel engines to drop.
Now if you have already spent a lot of money by installing a Chip, an Air Intake, and a larger an Exhaust System... and are still not getting the fuel mileage gains you were looking for... all hope is not lost!
Years ago I discovered that the easiest way to "bump" up the fuel mileage of a diesel is to “increase the engine's torque rise”.
Increasing torque rise is simply done by recalibrating the engine's brain box with "tried and true" custom fuel and timing maps. Re-adjusting the engine's power curve can improve your truck’s mileage up to 15-20%.
Most likely you will not be able to get your truck up to 30 MPG... but a lot of our customers that were getting 14-15 MPG are now getting 18-21 MPG after installing our custom calibrations.

I believe the best and most simple way to squeeze another 15-20% more mileage out of your Power Stroke is increasing the torque rise of the engine at lower RPMs with customized Fuel/Air/Timing calibrations.Loaded or empty … fine tuning the fuel, air, and timing tables causes your engine to run at its peak efficiency at the lower RPM which give you better performance with less load on the engine. You get more power output with less fuel input.
Producing more low end power without adding more fuel gives you a wider “power-band” which keeps your truck running at it’s peak air-fuel ratios resulting in better performance and less fuel consumption.
The ECM, also known as the ECU or PCM, is the "brain box" that controls and manages the injection of fuel into the motor. It does this by using sophisticated formulas and feedback from several engine sensors to regulate the air/fuel ratios.
Properly recalibrating or remapping the engines "fuel and timing tables" results in changing the "peak efficiency" of the motor ... which in turn increases its fuel efficiency.
When you remap the fuel tables on the ECM with the proper calibrations... your engine now has a faster torque rise at a LOWER-RPM... resulting in a stronger "bottom end" power band.
This is THE SECRET to squeezing a few more MPG out of just about any diesel engine!
